I started writing Poetry to get down on paper some of the thoughts swilling about my head. Passion for a subject or cause is paramount to me or it becomes boring and locks away my enthusiasm.

I write poetry when I'm sad, to put into words all my sorrows that I can't tell to friends or relatives. Poetry for me is
talking to the world and to myself, without having to speak. Poetry is the most beautiful thing you can do with words...

I struggled many years to give expression to what I felt inside, not only in words but also in images. The problem was that I tried to create the things of my heart with my mind. Once my hands where connected with my heart, it started flewing out by itself. My english poems are not translated from dutch (my maternal tongue), I wrote them in english. Most of my poetry is written in dutch, so only a few people of this group will understand it.

Monika,

My best poems I wrote when I was very sad and very lonely, writing beautiful things for myself, encouraging myself to hold on, to give myself inner dignity, ...

I write poetry to cleanse my soul - tears, smiles, laughter, all those human emotions cascade through every piece of verse... Poetry born in a moment, as freedom overrides life "chores"... It only takes a milli-second for the eye/heart/soul to capture imagination :). ...Fingers & pen/keyboard do the rest.

So have I, dear Brajanne - it took a serious car crash & recovery time to let words flow on paper in a more serious & regular manner... In terms of visual arts, it is a different story, since i have always been meddling with brushes, crayons, inks or camera :)).
Words take a little longer for some reason.

I rarely write to be honest although I can sing along to myself and create song after song just running through thoughts in my head. I thought I should just record myself sometime to see if anything is worth putting to paper. When I do actually write it's usually in spurts of an hour or so of constant typing away.. I once wrote about 10 poems in about 45 minutes.. it just flowed out.. I really enjoyed it and it was such a release of emotion. I was going though a really tough time then. I just posted one of those on the main page. 'Lost Island'

Zen is the mind of the poet. The words write themsleves.

Darren,

I recognise a lot of myself in your topic, that's the it happens in me.

I know where everyone is coming from, I can have as much going through my mind and I really should keep a pad and pen handy as I lose so much that needs to be said and; that passionate moment is to be nurtured and hard to re- capture.

POEMS TO ME IS THE JOURNEY IN WHICH WE FOLLOW,BE SAD,BE HAPPY,OR WHAT EVER EMOTIONS YOU WANT, BECAUSE IT IS THE JOURNEY. MY SON IN HIGH SCHOOL ASK ME MOM I NEED A POEM FOR ENGLISH CLASS HAVE YOU GOT ONE,OR HOW DO YOU DO IT? WELL IT IS LIKE THIS PLACE YOURSELF ON THE TOP OF A BIG HILL BUT YOU NEED TO BE AT THE BOTTOM,DO NOT RUN DOWN THE HILL BUT WALK DOWN AND NOTICE EVERY TREE,ROCK,AND AMINAL,WHEN YOU GET TO THE BOTTOM THEN YOU WILL TELL PEOPLE WHAT YOU SAW AS YOU CAME DOWN THE HILL,AND THAT IS YOUR POEM.WELL HE MADE AN (A) ON IT AND IT WAS BEAUTIFUL,AND TILL THIS DAY HIS TEACHER SAYS HOW IS THE POET DOING,AND PUT ONE OF MINE IN A STORY ABOUT ME IN THE NEWS PAPER.
I FEEL WE ALL HAVE A JOURNEY AND WHAT WE SEE IN THAT JOURNEY IS OUR POEM TO ALL WHO READ.

I wrote my first poems at the age of 14 after the death of my mother. So this was linked with grief and recovery.
Now I want to express what I feel and think about the universe and my personal existence. Sometimes phrases are dictated to me during my sleep. I wake up with sentences in my head. Tip: write them down immediately. When you go back to sleep you'll not remember them. A friend in San Francisco told me once this state of bliss is known as "cognitive memory" and many poets have this type of experience. I always feel very happy when this happens though it wears the body out, lack of sleep is the result but I don't care.

I read poetry to re connect to my essence. I live in a world of sounds, rather than use my eyes, even if this may "sound" weird. I rarely use my eyes, although I can see perfectly well. Never look at the keys, I did that with the piano too. So I READ OUT LOUD AND RECORD POEMS, then I can listen to them. It's very different. There should be theatres, the kind of the Opera Temples, where we could listen to Poetry, instead of having to go to those clustered places where people get bored and we sit one on top of the other to be able to listen a poet reading his work. Poets (I'm not one) are interpreters playing their music: SOUNDS. They still haven't found a place in this world. My admiration to all of you,
Daniela Ordnung

Why write music? Isn't it just the same?
